From Monday, July 20th - Sunday, August 2nd RSMA is happy to host a two-week Summer Intensive Workshop Series for interested students of all ages who want to develop their music and performing skills. Featuring highly qualified faculty performers who have created a series of workshops and masterclasses focusing on a variety of areas beyond simple technique, including piano, pedagogy, diction for singer, class voice, pop and musical theater singing, classical voice, ear training, theory, acting for children, stage confidence and public speaking, children’s a cappella ensemble, composition for children, and piano performance.
Workshop attendees can register for as many workshops as they want to create a complete custom learning and development experience. Discounts are available for those register for multiple workshops and sections.

1.PIANO PERFORMANCE AND HISTORY OF KEYBOARD MUSIC FOR YOUTH

A series of open master-classes and performances in small groups as well as presentations on the history of keyboard instruments and popular dance forms that influence piano literature. Students will work on and perform in-class solos and duets. A final in-class performance will be record and distributed to the student via email. 2. PIANO PEDAGOGY: THE CORE OF RUSSIAN METHOD

A series of presentations and masterclasses on pedagogical repertoire. Topics include early stage training, the main principles of working on sound and articulation, the approach to different elements of texture and types of piano technique, the role of fingering in tone and interpretation, stylistic framing, “professional health”, and more. 3. THE BASICS OF COMPOSITION FOR CHILDREN

In this class students will compose music in-class in different styles. They will compose melodies and try to arrange them in different styles, such as the typical classic or baroque styles or flavors of Impressionism or folk music, or the basic elements of pop and jazz, including both rhythm and harmony. At the end of class student will received an engraved copy of their piece and each piece will be performed during final class either by student or with help of teacher. 4. A CAPELLA SINGING INTRODUCTION COURSE*

Students will participate in a youth A Capella ensemble where they learn the basics of singing as a group, phrasing together, making a unified sound, and gaining confidence through singing. this class is an intensive in Russian diction for singers. Through a series of mini-lectures and in-class performance and master-classes students will learn how to sing and pronounce the Russian language and become familiar with some of the staples of the Russian vocal repertoire. Topics include recognizing the Cyrillic alphabet, IPA equivalents in several printed sources, sounds specific to the language, difference between speaking and singing, how to find the keyword of a phrase. a series of mini-lectures and performance presentations as well as open masterclasses working the repertoire of the German lied and French Melodie. Students will learn the basic rules of pronunciation and stylistic performance by working on standard repertoire chosen with the instructor and display their new skills in final performance on August 2nd: 5 meetings and a final performance/class size limited to 6 registrants/age 18+/ price 1400$ all-inclusive/each session is 110min. 11. CONFIDENCE, ACTING, PERFORMING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

for those who want to work on stage fright, how to present themselves on stage, how to act with confidence, how to handle speaking in public, even the simple act of how to bow, this class will teach you how to “be” on stage. The first session will feature a conversation with local movie star Jai Day. Cancellation policy:
Classes will be cancelled, and full refund will be given in the following cases:

The teacher is sick

If the enrollment is below 4 students (except A Capella class, where the minimum enrollment should be 8)

If a major protest or event of social unrest occurs on HK Island disrupting transportation

In the event of a black rain storm or typhoon signal 8 being issued

If the building fire alarm goes off.
Students may cancel their registration no later than 2 weeks prior to class start and receive a partial refund of 50%. They may choose to apply the remaining fee withheld to register for alternative course.

Once classes are fully registered, students may enroll on a waiting list the event that places become available or an additional section of that workshop is added to the schedule.
