Born and raised in Hong Kong, pianist Jamie Shum is an active soloist, chamber musician, and educator who has performed across Mainland China, Europe, and the United States.

A winner of the 2017 Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Festival, Shum has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, the Indiana University Students Orchestra, and the HKBU Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with distinguished conductors such as Ken Lam and Johnny Poon. Her recent performance highlights include a solo recital at the Shenzhen Mountain View Theater, a concerto appearance as fortepiano soloist with the HKBU Collegium Musicum in 2024, and a feature in the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s (LCSD) ‘Our Music Talents’ series. She has also been featured in interviews and performances on RTHK’s The Works.

An experienced collaborative artist, Shum served as répétiteur for world-class soprano Nicole Cabell and worked as the orchestral pianist for the HKBU Symphony Orchestra. She has refined her craft at summer festivals including the Brevard Music Festival and the Orfeo Music Festival in Vipiteno, and in masterclasses led by renowned artists such as Gabriel Kwok, Christopher Elton, Natalya Antonova, Awadagin Pratt, Michael Chertock, Elisabeth Pridonoff, Ksenia Nosikova, and Graham Scott.

Shum holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied under Norman Krieger and Luba Edlina-Dubinsky, following her Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Hong Kong Baptist University under the guidance of Amy Sze. Alongside her active performing career, Shum is an accomplished educator who has received numerous outstanding teaching awards since 2019.
